Completed Blog!

I have now finished my AS Media blog, what a relief! It has bee a good experience and I really enjoyed using a blog, it is different and exiting. Plus, I am able to see it wherever and it is all in the one place, it is a good way to use different technologies and I think that more subjects should use this.

I hope you enjoy reading and looking at my journey through my media course and I can't wait for next years tasks! My blog is quite neatly laid out and labeled well so hopefully you will have no trouble finding what you need.

Thankyou. :)

Question 3.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Wentworth Entertainment Production is our production company, they make low budget, British, romcom's. These films are targeted at the higher end of the teen target market and young adults who enjoy this genre of film produced.

The distribution of your film all depends on what scale you want your film to be shown on. If you have spent 100 million pounds on making a blockbuster film then you would want your film distributed by major film companies, such as Paramount, Warner and Disney, and would want the films exhibited in cinemas such as Vue and Odeon. The type of film that we have made is independent, this means that distribution will be limited unless we spend a lot of money to get the film on a large scale distribution and exhibition scale. Our film would be shown in small independent cinemas, on a specific film channel, film festivals or on the web. Because our film is produced by a low budget, British company, the web is the best place to distribute the film and gain a large audience, possibly a wider audience than targeted.

The internet is becoming a more popular place to upload films and easier to find and watch them, websites like this are Youtube and Vimeo. It is a way forward for low budget film makers and is getting there work recognised over the world without having to spend such a large amount of money to get a major studio to distribute it. Because we are students our film is deffinately low budget, this means that we are limited to the choices of distribution. If we did have a good budget and made this film for real I think that it would make it to the popular cinema's, Vue and Odeon, as the storyline has the making of a good, engaging film and there are also other films of this genre out just now so it would deffinately be given a chance.

Changes.

Quite a lot of changes have been made to our title sequence since we produced the storyboard and shot listing. This was due to watching it back and noticing that we had too much of a story for a tiny title sequence. The idea still stayed the same but we added plenty more shots and angles which makes the sequence look more professional and less of a story.

Filming Pick Ups.

We discovered when editing that we had a lack of close up shots to link the title sequence together. We are having to go out filming again in order to make sure we really get all the shots we need.

Work In Progress - Filming.

Yesterday we had planned to start our filming. We let all our cast know dates and times but unfortunately only two people were able to come due to a busy schedule!
We managed to film all of our first shot and part of our second shot, but our camera died. So Em and I got on with some of our other work whilst we waited for the battery to charge. By the time it was done people had to leave so we have rescheduled for tomorrow but once again not all of our cast can come but we need to get it done, so we will be going ahead with it and will update with our progress tomorrow.

Gaining Premission.

As we aren't using anywhere public to film we did not need to ask for permission to use any land. However, we are filming at Em's house so had to check if it was ok with her parents to film there and when the house would be free for us to use. We did this verbally as it didn't need to be formal.

Shot Listing.

Shot 1: Establishing shot of house where the party is taking place.
Shot 2: Group shot of everyone walking up the stairs, to show time passing. This will be fast forwarded in the edit suite. There will be several of these faded into each other. and the people will be getting more tipsy as the night goes along, e.g. spilling drinks and falling over.
Shot 3: Pan around room showing all the mess and hungover people in the morning.

Shot 4: Close up of main characters face as she wakes up.
Shot 5: Mid shot of main character moving on bed as she wakes up to get off the bed.
Shot 6: Close up of her playing with her head/hair and finding it very matted and tuggy to run her hands through.
Shot 7: Cut away of her being sick in the toilet as she remembers how drunk she got.
Shot 8: Close up of her putting her shoes on and then walking in to the camera so it fades to black
Shot 9: Name of film fades in from the black. This should be before the 2 minutes are up.

All the way through this we will have credits in the corners of the screen.
We have not decided on any fonts yet but it will look girly and bold. We have a few choices for music playing in the background as non diegetic music throughout the sequence but we still need to check copyright for them.

Story Board.

Here is my storyboard, I did it on a white board and drew the shots out. Preferably I would like to have made a moving storyboard with the video camera's but I could not fit this into my time scale and though the effort should be put into some of the other blogs.

Scripting and Rehearsing.

Our title sequence does not include any dialogue and so we therefore did not need to script anything. We also decided that because no lines were to be learnt, our cast would be fine on the day of filming as they are already aware of what they will have act out and we did not think it would have been necessary for a rehearsal for something so straight forward for our cast.

Health and Safety.

Potential danger
Potential outcomes
Actions to avoid potentials outcomes
Leaving the camera box on the floor.
Tripping over the box and causing injury.
Make sure the box is closed and placed out of the way, for example on a table.
Tripping over wires.
This could result in the lighting falling over and breaking as well causing a fire as they get hot. This could cause injury to people around.
Make sure wires are not places where people will be walking and warn everyone around when lights are in use.
Lights getting very hot.Burns to the body.Make sure the lights are off when not in use. When they are on warn everyone and be aware of how hot they get. Allow them to cool down before moving/putting away.
Tripping over tripod.
Resulting in injury especially if there are sharp/big objects around.
Make sure people are aware of the tripod when in use. Not allow anyone near the tripod apart from the directors, Em and I.
Dropping camera
Camera may break. Lense could shatter, sharp pieces of plastic would be dangerous.
Have camera in tripod when in use and use the hand strap when filming without it. When camera is not in use make sure it is safely stored in the box.
Leaving camera unattended.
This could result in theft.

Make sure one of us is with all equipment at all times.
